When I was a fifteen year old kid working in the back kitchen of a Japanese food restaurant, there was a man named Carlos who was the lead cook. When I'd report to Carlos about whether I should tackle a certain task he'd always give me the same answer (till I stopped asking)...he'd say, "if not you, who? If not now, when?". I'm now a twenty seven year old man working in the entertainment industry, and in the midst of finding myself creatively unfulfilled (on a personal level, my day job is actually pretty awesome), I find myself pondering Carlos' elegant phrase.
If I don't write the script floating around in my head, who will? If I don't edit this short film now, when will I? The list goes on...and on. Which is what brings me here, to this website, to this blog and to this very moment in my life where I'm taking a step back and asking myself what it is I NEED to be doing. What I need to be doing is DOING. Creating. Finishing. Focusing on the path ahead and understanding that now (and only now) is what's going to get me there. Where is "there"? I don't have the slightest clue, but I know that if I work hard and be true to my creative self, "there" will be more fulfulling than here.
If not me, who? If not now, when?
Me. Now.
